On the minimal number of singular fibers with non-compact Jacobians for families of curves over P1

Abstract Let f : X → P 1 be a non-isotrivial family of semi-stable curves of genus g ≥ 1 defined over an algebraically closed field k. Denote by s nc the number of the singular fibers whose Jacobians are non-compact. We prove that s nc ≥ 5 if k = C and g ≥ 5 ; we also prove that s nc ≥ 4 if char ( k ) > 0 and the relative Jacobian of f is non-smooth.

Let A be an associative algebra with pseudoinvolution (Formula presented.) over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero and let (Formula presented.) be its sequence of (Formula presented.) -codimensions. We shall prove that such a sequence is polynomially bounded if and only if the variety generated by A does not contain five explicitly described algebras with pseudoinvolution. One of the milestones in the theory of semigroups and automata is the Krohn-Rhodes Theorem. It states that every finite semigroup S divides a wreath product of finite simple groups, each of them divisor of S, and finite aperiodic semigroups, i. e. semigroups with trivial maximal subgroups. The smallest number of groups in any Kohn-Rhodes decomposition is called the group complexity of the semigroup. It has been demonstrated in an experimental study in swine using the scanning electron microscope that a rebreathing technique utilising minimal fresh gas flowrates significantly improves climatization of anaesthetic gases. Consequently, effects of various anaesthetic techniques on airway climate must be assessed, which covers the need for suitable measuring devices. Abstract Study Objective: To verify whether the airway climate in circle systems can be improved with heated breathing tubes. Design: Randomized, controlled, prospective clinical study. Setting: Operating theater of the Department of Maxillofacial Surgery. Patients: 26 adult patients undergoing prolonged anesthesia. Internal Fixation in Postpartum Symphysis Pubis Rupture: Report of Three Cases

We present three patients with postpartum symphysis pubis rupture whose severe complaints persisted after conservative treatment. All three ruptures were stabilized with open reduction and internal fixation. There were no postoperative problems, and implants were removed after a mean period of six months. Patients were free of complaints after implant removal. In select cases, operative treatment of postpartum symphysiolysis may be indicated.

Within a framework of general algebra we firstly formulate a proposition on the group of the automorphisms of some irreducible algebrae (id est algebrae without proper non trivial subalgebrae). This proposition includes as particular cases the uniqueness of the automorphisms of the rational field and the Burnside theorem on the commutant of an irreducible set of operators of a finite dimensional vector space over an algebraically closed field. Afterwards we apply the general proposition to modules with irreducible sets of semilinear operators and we obtain a theorem which generalises from several points of view the Burnside theorem. The influence of reverse flow on the dynamics of closed-loop supply chains

The purpose of this paper is to study the impact of reverse logistics’ factors on the order and inventory variance amplification in a closed-loop supply chain. We adopt a difference equation math approach for analysing a closed-loop supply chain. Results show how the return flow positively affects both the inventory variance and the bullwhip effect independently of the number of echelons. On the contrary, an increasing remanufacturing lead-time negatively affects both the two metrics studied independently of the above mentioned settings. However, when the number of echelons increases, the benefit provided by the return flow tends to decrease.
Battered child syndrome: cerebral ultrasound and CT findings after vigorous shaking.

Child abuse by whiplash-shaking can lead to severe cerebral damage, neurological defects and mental retardation. Cerebral damage has been found with and without external evidence of head injury. We report the sonographic findings in two children after traumatization due to repetitive vigorous whiplash shaking. Cerebral sonography revealed cerebral edema at admission or within 48 hours thereafter. Follow-up studies demonstrated development of marked brain atrophy in both cases.
